Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up living in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. She became a reporter for the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located in Washington DC. She was hired by NBC News Washington two years later as an general reporter. 1980 began her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the main congressional reporter. Mitchell was appointed the chief White House correspondent in 1992. and chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell was a guest in the TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist and host. She was on the panel during 1988's presidential debates, which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contribution to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy news stories throughout the years, such as the tax reforms, budget reforms and an investigation into the Iran Contra affair. She traveled frequently along with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
